Message Yes, I did the final assembly myself after I got the machined block and crank back from the machine shop. I *could* have asked them to do it for me, but I really wanted the learn hands-on how to do it. I read the assembly part of the service manual to the point where I knew it off by heart =P....plus I did a ton of reading online on engine assembly, PLUS all the tips I got from members here really helped.

The machine work cost me around 900$ cdn.
This included:
Hot-tanking the block
Bore .5 over
Hone
Line-bore/hone the main journals (this is not a must at all, but since I was using ARP main studs and the clamping force is applied differently, my machinist recommended it).
Resurface the deck
Balancing the crank (important since you're changing pistons)
Polishing the journals
new Clevite77 bearings
welding the center counterweight bolts in place.

I don't have the price of each on hand, but I can find it later if you want.

Also, I cleared the water passage myself, so I saved there a bit.
